Listing the reasons for which I chose the city of Heidelberg to start a professional career in Germany would take too long. There are just too many, like its university that is considered the oldest in Germany, or the Homo Heidelbergensis, one of the extinct species that lived in the region 500000 years ago. Not to mention, its location surrounded by nature right on the edge of the Odenwald national park. More than enough factors that made this city a true Eldorado for me, the young anatomist, amateur of history and photography that I am.
But that’s not all. I must admit that Heidelberg (or luck) offered me an unexpected surprise, a sort of a reward for finishing the German course. The “Körperwelten” or “Body Worlds”.
Körperwelten is the plastination museum made by the famous anatomist Gunther von Hagens in Altes Hallenbad, in the heart of the city. This time settled definitively, after touring the world, von Hagens, who is also the inventor of the plastination technique, finally returns to his origins, after ending the dispute with the authorities of his home university.
It is certainly hard to go through my visit to this museum. I would rather show you some of the pictures I took on the spot, until a special section in the website gallery will be made. I also put links and videos, as an incentive to take a look at the art of anatomy.
