Astrophotography has always been one of my favourite topics, and still it is hard to master. It needs special equipment, and above all it needs a long experience to get good results.
Last week I had the opportunity to observe one of the most beloved astronomic events, especially for photographers, the lunar total eclipse, which happened on July 27th.
I took moon pictures for several times in the last years, eclipsed or in other circumstances. Till now, I have got acceptable frames. But this time, I challenged myself to do something new. Shooting my best composition for the city of Heidelberg during the eclipse. That means to combine astrophotography and night-cityscape!
Blue hour, waiting for the moon.
The day before, I had to climb up through the Philosophenweg, in order to see exactly where and when the moon rises and to choose the best location to shoot from. Philosophenweg, or Philosophers’ walk in English, is a path situated on the north bank of the Neckar river, in the Heiligenberg Mountain, and gives lovely views on the Königsstuhl, the mountain on the other bank, with the old town and the Heidelberg castle.

It was a really wonderful event. I tried not to worry so much about getting a great photo, and have a good time with some friends instead.
